UKM- Food Hunting

Wherever we go, I believed that we will always be looking for food. So, for today's posting, I want to talk about food varieties IN UKM.

1. College cafeteria

 To start with, UKM has a total of 12 residential colleges;

  • 10 at the main campus Bangi (KPZ,KUO,KIY,KDO,KTHO,KAB,KRK,KKM,KBH,KIZ)
  • 1 at KL campus (KTSN)
  • 1 at Cheras campus (KTDI)
Every college has its own cafeteria. The difference is probably the size of cafeteria and variety of food available. For example, KPZ and KKM have a bigger cafe and the most variety of food compared to other colleges. My favorite is the KPZ cafe! Foods offered vary from Malay to Chinese, Western and Arab cuisine. There are also Roti Canai, Shawarma, Uncle Bob Fried Chicken and Mycafe (small bakery). The cafe also has different types of seating and you can choose to seat anywhere according to your preference. I always chose the hut because there is more privacy. If you got the chance to eat there, I can guarantee that you will never regret it!

2. Bookworm Cafe at Perpustakaan Tun Seri Lanang (PTSL)

UKM students love to study!

Especially during examination week, you will see lots of students at PTSL. Some of them stay there until late at night, so it is troublesome to go back to college just to eat. So most of them, choose to eat at Bookworm cafe instead. This cafe is actually new and since its opening, it has eased a lot of students. The concept of the cafe is like a less version of Family Mart, KK Mart, and Seven-Eleven. Foods offered are Oden, Sushi, Shawarma, pre-packed meals, and ready-to-eat food. There are also beverages, cakes, and pastries.

3. Pusanika

Pusanika is the main facilities center in UKM. At Pusanika, you will not just get to eat but there are also Pos Laju, book shops, association room, and ATM. In Pusanika, you can eat at:
  • Food Stalls (there are burgers, beverages, and pastries. The waffles here are very delicious tho, you must try it.)

  • Hot Meal Bar (it is Chinese Muslim cuisine, the most popular dish is the Mee Tarik and you can get it at only RM6 using the student card. The serving is also very big. If you are not a fan of noodles, you can get the Rice Set at only RM6. You can choose 2 types of vegetables including egg and sausage and 1 type of either fish, chicken or meat. The meatball is a must-try)
Mee Tarik
Dumplings

  • Food Courts (here you can get many Malay cuisines like Nasi Ayam, Nasi Campur and there are also cakes and pastries)

  • Mango Bay (this is one of my favorites! You can get mango smoothies here, it is made with real mango and very delicious, it is a must whenever I went to Pusanika)

  • Kebab Turki (to be honest, I have never eaten there, but am definitely going to try in the future)
There are more shops but I can't recall it in my memory😭

4. WISMA UNIKEB

Unlike other places I mentioned above, Wisma UNIKEB is situated outside of UKM but it is also one of the favorite stops of not only students but also lecturers and staff. It is near the Gate 3 (near Tasik Kejut FKAB).

5. Cafe Canseloria

I have never eaten here, but as far as I know, it serves Western cuisine as well as cakes and coffee. The interior design is very beautiful. It is situated at Bangunan Canselori near the main gate of UKM.

Honorable mentions ~~~

1. FKAB Cafeteria

The food here is very delicious, one of the best for me! It is situated near Tasik Kejut, so you can enjoy the scenery while eating. There are Nasi Campur, Nasi Ayam, Roti Canai and burger(if I'm not mistaken😆)

2. Free Food

Usually, the students association at UKM will hand out free food. It is like a program to help students who are less capable to eat but anyone can take it as well. Usually, you can get it at Pusanika or faculty. Just make sure to be alert with announcements!

3. Masjid UKM

On Monday and Thursday, Masjid UKM usually provides free food for Iftar to people who fast. However, other people who didn't fast can get it too.

4. Al Fariz Maju Bangi

If you are a UKM student but do not recognize Al Fariz Maju, then I don't know what to say. Most UKM students, have been there at least once. It is a Mamak style. You can get nan cheese here😍 It is also a hangout port for students.

If you want to try those foods but having difficulties, don't worry. I know routes in UKM can be very confusing, so here is a UKM Map for you!

Good luck and regards!
